Hello GB Community!
Well…believe it or not, Friday was the last day for trimester one. Time went by so fast and I know trimester two will go by even faster with all of the holidays and breaks. Teachers are busy working on report cards now, and those will be electronically sent out to you during the week of November 16th. Also, coming very soon are Parent-Teacher conferences. Please be on the lookout for scheduling opportunities with your child’s teachers for this very important meeting.
November and December’s Character Trait
For the next two months we will focus on the character trait of Building Community (and Giving Back): “making your school, community, and the world a better place by volunteering and helping others in the school and community.” On Tuesday, November 6th our Second Harvest Barrels will be delivered so that we can once again donate dry foods and canned goods to those in need. We will have the barrels through November 28th and this year our goal is to collect over 200 lbs. of food! Last year, this food drive was very successful. Please look for the barrels throughout the school campus to drop your donations off. The staff and students thank you in advance for supporting our cause.
In December, stay tuned for ways your child can participate in donating and wrapping books and blankets for homeless children. This give-back opportunity will be directly connected to our Book Fair this year and we will have our “Giving Tree” once again! If you remember, last year our Giving Tree was devoted to another elementary school in SSF and our students really enjoyed selecting books for other students. More to come…
November’s Book Recommendation from Mrs. DeRego
The Journey of Little Charlie, Christopher Paul Curtis:
Charlie is a poor, white sharecropper living with his widowed mother. Not long after his father passes away, the cruel overseer from the plantation Charlie is farming stops by to collect a debt owed by Charlie’s deceased father. Unable to pay Cap’n Buck, Charlie must instead accompany him to Canada to track down the plantation’s runaway slaves who escaped to freedom.
Coffee with the Principal
Please join me on Friday right after our assembly for a cup of coffee and a conversation on the ways we promote social-emotional health. As promised, November will be dedicated to letting you know what we have happening at GB as far as the social-emotional health of our campus is concerned and hear from you about ways we can continue to make improvements collectively as the community of GB. I will also leave time for any other questions or concerns you would like me to address. I look forward to seeing you all there.
Thank you and have a thankful week,
Nadia Oskolkoff, Principal
