Good Afternoon GB Community,
This week during my classroom walkthroughs, I saw excellent learning and community building taking place. It is only the second week of school but our students are deep into their literacy, math, science, and social-emotional lessons. Our youngest Grizzlies (K-1) are already “reading” to each other and talking about the pictures in the book or learning how to write about “small moments.” One first grader suggested if you want to write about BIG moments, "you should just add more paper." 2nd grade mathematicians were participating in a math talk and explaining how they arrived at an answer all the while practicing their math vocabulary. Third graders were building a classroom community that is conducive to learning and writing personalized literacy goals that were “just right for them.” 4th graders were practicing creating videos and so engrossed in their reading that they did not even notice I was in the room. 5th graders were showing just how much they knew about math already and giving their teachers excellent data to work from. And, our 6th graders were annotating a poem and creating their personal reading history. Our students have read a lot of books and had very creative ways of showing that! In between all of that- I saw classes coming and going to PE to work their muscles and learn about cooperative sports! And that was just one morning! So much happiness on GB's campus!

Character Trait of the Month
This month, our character trait is EMPATHY: showing care for the feelings of others. We encourage our students to show kindness by showing EMPATHY. There are teachable moments throughout a student’s day when we can talk about empathy. To help us align and reinforce this teaching, Project Cornerstone’s book this month is Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon.
I wish you all a wonderful 3-day weekend. I hope you and your family get a chance to enjoy and explore the magical outdoors in some peaceful and beautiful way.
