December 2
Welcome Back! I do hope you each had a lovely break and feel rested. I flew to Boston to visit my husband’s family and missed the big dump of snow back there by just of few hours! It was wonderful to be with his family and our East Coast friends, but it always feels good to come home. It also felt good to come back to school and see all of the smiling faces. The students across the classrooms were very happy to be back!
Thank you, parents and teachers, for being a part of our Parent-Teacher Conferences last week. The teachers spend a great deal of time preparing for each meeting and we know many of you have to make arrangements to join us. These meetings are always a good way to let your students shine and take the lead and show you how much they have been learning. Areas of growth are also addressed, which is an important part of doing our best. If you were unable to meet with your child’s teacher last week, please make arrangements to meet with the teacher ASAP. Our goal is always 100% participation.
ZEN DEN
Our Zen Den has recently had some beautiful and mindful improvements, thanks to Audrey L. and her crew! If you do not know, Audrey has an artistic eye and Gardner Bullis absolutely just benefited from that! If you will be here during our annual book fair night on Tuesday, December 10th, we will have it open for you to see.
The Zen Den is a multi-purpose room that after-school classes or specials during the day use, but also for our mindfulness coach and lunch activities. Now that it is complete, we will be mindfully looking for other ways to use this peaceful setting.
Do you have an “almost-middle-schooler?”

DECEMBER’s STEM PROJECT: Computer Design Science Challenge
As you all know, we have an amazing and very hard-working STEM/Literacy Coach-Mrs. Schroeder. This month’s STEM project is on coding! For more information, click here. Your child will be very interested!
Mindful Parenting: Covington Library WEDNESDAY 6 pm-8 pm Coming to our school this Wednesday, December 4th is Ronen Habib, founder of EQ Schools. Thanks to the support of the PTA, the teachers and I have been able to partner with EQ Schools over the past couple of years and have learned about social-emotional health and emotional intelligence in the classrooms. As many of you may know, this has also been the work of my dissertation. I am very excited to welcome "Roni" to not only our school but also Covington Elementary. He will work with both schools’ teachers in the afternoon and in the evening, hold a parent workshop. Please join Covington's community at the Covington Elementary School Library to learn more about this very important topic from the parents' perspective. To get you excited, you can watch his TEDx here.
Have a safe and dry week,
Nadia
