Hello Gardner Families, I do hope everyone has been able to stay dry these past few weeks. It is tough to have so many rainy days back-to-back but we sure needed the rain so that makes it a good thing! This past Tuesday all of our Gardner teachers gathered with the district and participated in professional development on English Language Arts strategies with a focus on the English Language Development standards. We learned about instruction and in the afternoon, each grade-level across the district came together to share ideas and strategize best practices. It was a very productive day that was then followed-up with ourWednesday staff meeting where we had the chance to debrief what we learned. Thank you to Principal Rocha who came to our coffeeFriday morning to talk to parents about middle school. He shared with us what students and parents can look forward to when they transition to 7th grade. If you missed the meeting, not to worry because Egan Middle School has several opportunities coming up for you: February 8- Incoming 7th Grade Parent Night (630-730PM @ Egan Multi.) March 3- Incoming 7th Grade Parent Tours (930-1030AM @ Egan Multi) March 30- Parent Panel (7:00 p.m. @ Library) Grizzly Game Club We are very excited to announce our Grizzly Game Club! Starting Tuesday, January 31st and every Tuesdaythere after, students can come to room 8 during lunch to play board games and make new friends. Thank you very much to Ms. Alcaraz and Ms. Semple for supporting this club and caring for our students! Student Council Meeting Our next student council meeting will be held at lunch on Friday the 27th. The focus of this meeting will include discussion and decisions on how Gardner Grizzlies can give back to the community. Stay tuned to hear about our outcomes! The next spirit day will be Friday, February 3rd: Pajama Day! Remember, every Friday is Gardner Wear Spirit Day. Newspaper: Bear Paw Paper We are so proud to announce the name of our new student-ran newspaper. “The Bear Paw Paper” will be produced monthly with the first edition coming out mid-February. Articles will be written and edited by our students. President Zander and his assistants are doing an amazing job and deserve a whooooooooo…FIREWORK! Attendance We have had a lot of families gone for extended vacations recently. If your family is going to be gone for longer than 5 school days, you must let your teacher know in advance with enough time to for her to prepare an independent study plan. You must also fill out paper work with Cathy in the office. While it is important that your child complete the independent study plan, please note that these plans cannot replicate the instruction your students will miss while gone. Parent EdTalk Join us for a Parent EdTalk on Assessment and Reporting in LASD this Friday at 9:00 am in the staff lounge. PTA Meeting Please join us for our monthly PTA meeting this Thursday at 8:45 in the staff lounge. I will be introducing and explaining our Ability Awareness Week that we will hold in March. From Mrs. Lombardi Now accepting submissions! I would like to invite all students in grades K-6 to participate in the 2017 STEM Expo!
