Hello Gardner Families, We were so proud of our community Friday night during our Multi-culture Fair! Together we celebrated and enjoyed customs, costumes, culture, history, food, dance, and so much more from 30 different countries! It was an amazing way to educate our children about the beautiful diversity at our school and in our world. This would not have been possible without Gulya Shafeeva’s leadership and vision and her amazing committee: Divya Valmiki, Lakshmi Ramgopal, Siri Eikedal, Shaye Chirotarrab, Elena Ziskind, Lance Very, Ana Chung, Jody Vandergriff, Yuki Yamaguchi, Jan Ahrens and the ever so talented Master of Ceremonies: Ms. Shelia! Please join me in thanking the Multi-culture Fair Committee for all they did to make our evening so special. Classroom Instruction My visits into the classrooms this week have highlighted rigorous instruction and student learning in so many ways. Here are just a few examples of what students are enjoying: Kindergarteners are learning about adjectives, 1st graders are learning about Abraham Lincoln and the weather, 2nd graders are writing poems from the point of view of an object, 3rd graders are learning about fractions and getting ready for their famous American Wax Museum, 4th graders are writing about important African Americans, 5th graders are learning about order of operations and journaling using post-its as a writing tool, STEM students are learning about constellations, and P.E. is focusing on team sports! Ability Awareness Week: 3/22, 3/23, 3/24 Please join us at one of the Coffee’s for more information on our Ability Awareness Week and to learn how to sign up to be a volunteer. It will be an experience that will warm the heart and bring our Gardner community together. Coffee with the Principal: Thursday 2/16 at 6:00 pm OR Friday 2/17 at 9:00 am Training with Volunteer Parents: 3/16 at 6:00 pm OR 3/20 at 9:00 am Use of Playground After School Parents and caregivers, please be mindful that the large playground is closed to students until school ends at 2:45pm. Instruction is still going on from 2:25-2:45 for our upper grades so I ask that lower grades to wait until then to play and only those who are supervised by a parent or caregiver. Thank you for your cooperation. Warmly, Nadia Oskolkoff, Principal |
