Hello Gardner Families,

Welcome to our first Bear Track of the school year.  For our new families, a Bear Tracks email will be sent out every Sunday packed full with excellent information from the school staff, PTA, LAEF, Living Classroom, music teachers, district nurses, and many more.  Please be sure to scroll down to the very bottom of each Bear Track so you do not miss anything.  If you ever want to go back to find information, each Bear Track will be posted on the Gardner website at http://www.gardnerbullis.org/.

Class Assignments

By now you should have received an emailing and letter with your students’ class assignment. If you did not, please contact the office at 650-559-3200.  We look forward to seeing everyone Tuesday at 4:00 for our PTA-sponsored Popcorn Social.  There, class lists will be posted outside the classrooms.

Readers Workshop

One of the first things you will notice about our classrooms is the new classroom libraries and reading spaces.  Gardner’s teachers participated in a district-wide summer training program for the Reader’s Workshop model in English Language Arts instruction and they cannot wait to share those libraries and reading spaces with their students.  We owe the PTA and Gardner community a huge thank you for their support.  Last year’s Fund-a-Cause at our annual auction was focused on supporting classroom libraries and they are here and beautiful!  We could not have done it without your support.

Solar Panels

Something else you will notice when you arrive at school is the removal of a few trees in the parking lot.  The District is excited to do its part in preserving our environment (reducing our carbon footprint) by installing solar panels at our school sites.  We expect to save 175,000 or more annually on our utility bills as a result of being able to grandfather our current PG&E rate structure.   In order to take advantage of this rate structure grandfathering we have a short window of opportunity-meaning the project must be completed before the end of the calendar year (December 31)...

For more information please read below.

Attendance

If your child is going to miss school, please call the attendance line (24/7) at 650-559-3232.  This will especially be important during the first week of school.

Solar Eclipse

Are you excited for the total solar eclipse happening on Monday, August 21st?  We are excited and gearing up for the experience.  Please stay tuned for more information that will be sent out next week about the event.

I wish everyone a wonderful school year and look forward to seeing you all next week.

Warmly,

Nadia Oskolkoff, Principal
