Hello Gardner Community,

I do hope this email finds you rested and ready to return to school on Tuesday, January 2nd.  My family and I had an amazing winter break filled with food, hikes, and movies.  My husband and I always try to see every nominated movie before the Oscars and this year we wanted to get a jump on that based purely on our best guesses.  ;) Let’s see how we did.

On this New Year’s Eve, I wish you and your family a happy and joyful new year.  We have learned a lot together as a community in 2017, shared so much with others, and grew in our mission and vision of being a Grizzly. I look forward to a new beginning and another wonderful year with you all.

Please note a few reminders below:

HOT LUNCH

In order to be most efficient and ensure we have volunteers for our hot lunch program EVERYDAY, the Hot Lunch team and I have created the following schedule.  Moving forward, we would like to assign each grade level certain weeks to volunteer.  If parents from the assigned grade level can volunteer one or two days of their assigned week, it would help the program tremendously and may stop us from needing to cancel lunch on every other Wednesday.  Below is the schedule starting with 6th grade families.  Please email the hot lunch team at gbhotlunch@gmail.com to inform them of what days you can be available.

  • Jan 2-5th:  6th grade
  • Jan 8-12th: 5th grade
  • Jan 17-19th: 4th grade
  • Jan 22-26th: 3rd grade
  • Jan 29-Feb 2nd: 2nd grade
  • Feb 5-9th: 1st grade
  • Feb 12-16th: Kinder
  • Feb 26th-March 2nd: 6th
  • Mar 5-9th: 5th
  • Mar12-16th: 4th
  • Mar 19-23rd: 3rd
  • Mar 26-Mar 30th:  2nd
  • Apr 2-6th: 1st
  • Apr 16-20th: Kinder

PARKING LOT UPDATE

Due to delays at the start of the solar project, temporary fencing will need to remain on site into the month of January—in order to ensure a safe worksite and enable an efficient wrap-up of the installation.  We expect the majority of the temporary fencing to be removed by the middle to end of January.  There will be some minor fencing left where handicapped parking stall upgrades are needed.

The good news is, after our project got underway the California Public Utilities Commission lifted the deadline for construction completion by December 31.  Nevertheless, our contractors are working to complete the project as quickly as possible.

I will certainly keep everyone updated as I learn new information.  I thank all of the families and staff members for their patience during the construction period.  We have worked well together and it has paid off.  If I may ask, it would be wonderful if we repeated the volunteer weekly schedule in the parking lot.  Having all of those parents out there with orange vests has been a HUGE help!  You may sign up HERE to help again.

  • Jan 2-5th:  Kinder parents
  • Jan 8-12th:  1st grade parents
  • Jan 17-19th:  2nd grade
  • Jan 22-26th:  3rd grade and 5th grade
  • Jan 29-Feb 1st: 4th grade and 6th grade

Again, Happy New Year!
