Hello Gardner Community,
Last Friday, we enjoyed celebrating Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Students had read-ins, read-a-thons, went to other classrooms to read with different teachers, and had guest readers come into their classroom. The staff and I would like to especially thank our guests who came in and made the day extra special:
Black History Month
Last month we honored Black History Month and we will continue to be exposed to others who have made a difference in our country. Thank you to Camilla G. for helping me place posters up of some pretty amazing human beings. Please help yourself to a quick peek of their stories as you walk past the office towards the multi-room.
Women’s History Month
This month we will celebrate Women’s History and the women who have made a difference not only in this country, but also throughout the world. There are so many stories for us to learn about and our students are indeed curious! Did you know Women’s History Month started right here in California? Here is a very short video on how March became the time to honor women. Each year, there is a particular theme or focus and this year the theme is “Nevertheless, She Persisted.”
Coffee with the Principal
Please join me on Friday, March 9th right after the assembly for our monthly coffee. This month you will hear from Ms. Semple and learn about the 4 Zones of Regulation. The Zones of Regulation is language that we are using across the school to help students recognize their emotions and have the words to explain them. I will also share with you how GB is partnering with EQ Schools (emotional intelligence) and what that means for our community. Both topics are relevant and important as they support the social and emotional wellbeing of our students and staff. I look forward to seeing you all on Friday.
LAEF Survey
The LAEF annual Parent Survey is now open. Please take a moment to fill it out by March 9. Your feedback is valuable as LAEF and LASD plan for the coming year.
Thank you,
Nadia Oskolkoff, Principal
