Gardner Bullis hosted a Kindergarten Orientation and Open House on Thursday, January 13th from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.  The presentation by the Head of School, Erica Gilbert, can be downloaded below.

Registration Packets are available for pick up at the school office.  Completed forms should be returned to your school of attendance between January 14 and February 4.

Please note that to be eligible for kindergarten in Fall 2011, children must be five years old on or before December 2, 2011, and parents must register their children at the neighborhood school serving the attendance area of the legal residence of the parent or guardian.

Spread the word! Invite neighbors and friends! Gardner Bullis will be hosting an Open House on Wednesday, December 8th and on Thursday, December 16th. Both Open Houses will start at 9 am. Join us for a short introduction, campus tour and classroom visits. Meet PTA parents and Principal Gilbert. No appointment is necessary. However, visitors should sign in at the office when they arrive.

 


Online enrollment for the Spring 2011 session of Girls on the Run begins on Dec. 1st. Enrollment is available for girls in the 3rd to 6th grade and is on a first-come, first-serve basis and regulated by GOTR Silicon Valley. 30 spots are available. Smythe and Cross, a Los Altos jewelry store, will host a sparkling holiday open house on Thursday, Dec. 9, from 5-9 pm.  All are invited to come for champagne, appetizers and happy holiday browsing.  And the best part is that Smythe & Cross will donate 10% of ALL sales on Dec. 9, 10 & 11 to LAEF.  Smythe & Cross is located at 350 Main St. between 1st & 2nd.  LAEF donations pay teacher and staff salaries, keeping class sizes lower, and ensuring more enrichment programs and electives.


The Mountain View and Los Altos High Schools 4th Annual Christmas Tree Lot is now open! Come visit them at their new location at the El Monte Shopping Center on the corner of El Camino and El Monte at the Blockbuster and CVS Pharmacy parking lot.

All proceeds benefit our schools, and you can direct up to 20% of your purchase price to your school or other local youth organization. In addition to purchasing the freshest highest quality trees, you will receive valuable coupons from local restaurants and retailers and a sweet gift from signature sweets with every purchase. The 4th Grade Juniors, Girl Scout Troop will be holding a Food Drive for the Sunnyvale Community Services. Please bring non-perishable and canned food to school on Dec. 6-10th. Bins will be available for collection. The Girl Scouts will bring the collected items to the Sunnyvale Community Center on Dec. 14th and help package food for needy families. Please do your part to help those who are not as fortunate.


The Book Fair is coming to the library on Tuesday, December 7th through Saturday, December 11th. Please join us for a wonderful selection of books provided by Kepler’s book store.  25% of all purchases during the books fair will go back to our school!    A representative from Keplers will be at the book fair to answer any questions you have! They have wonderful recommendations for books so if you don't know what to get that hard to buy for kid (or adult), they will have a suggestion! Along with Jane, our invaluable librarian, you are sure to find books for everyone on your list!  Hours of operation are:

 

Tuesday – 2:00-3:30 p.m.
Wednesday-Friday – 8:00-9:00 a.m., 11:30-1:00 and 2:00-3:30 p.m.
Saturday – 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.


Author Visit and Writing Workshop!! In conjunction with the book fair, we will be having author Lissa Rovtech, of the Hot Dog and Bob series at Gardner Bullis for writing workshops on Wednesday, December 8th, and she will stay to sign books that afternoon at the book fair from 2:30-3:30p.m.  Her series is for beginning readers and focuses on our hero Bob, a regular kid who finds the hot dog in his school lunch box is alive and it needs Bob's help to save the world!  Come and meet this wonderful author.


Pre-order Forms!! Your child should have brought home two forms in the Thursday folder. The Student Account Card order from allows you to set up an account for your child for purchases at the book fair. Any remaining balance will transferred to a Kepler’s gift card. A pre-order form for the Hot Dog and Bob books was also included.  Pre-order these books now and they will be ready to be signed by the author. Please return these forms to the library on Monday, December 6th.

Shop Online!! If you can't find time for the book fair or if you have friends and relatives who can't attend who want to support the school, never fear!  On our website, click on "Shopping Rebates" then the “Kepler's” button to find a shopping page for our school.   Kepler’s will donate 10% of all purchases made through the Kepler’s website to our school even after the book fair.

 


Parent-Teacher Conferences are being held at various times this week and Monday and Tuesday of next week. Please confirm your time with your child’s teacher and don’t miss this important opportunity to discuss your child’s progress to date.

If your child raised more that $250 during the Walkathon, you should have received an Evite to the Lunch with the Principal celebration which will be held on Thursday, November 18th. If you did NOT receive an invitation and think you should have, please drop contact Michelle Galbraith.


Recently, the Los Altos School District held a strategic planning session to set the Educational Blueprint for the future. Parents, teachers, administrators, school board members and other community members developed a mission statement and set 3-year goals with short-term objectives. Come hear what was developed and the direction the school district will be heading on Thursday, November 18 at 8:30am in the library. Coffee will be provided. Please note, there will be NO PTA Meeting on Wednesday, November 17th as previously announced.
