On Tuesday, March 1st, all 4th and 7th graders will be taking the STAR Writing. Please be sure that students get a good night sleep and eat a good breakfast so they can do their best.
The Junior Olympics will be held on Saturday, April 30th at Mountain View High School.
Our 4th, 5th and 6th graders have been training hard for this event with the help and support from district P.E. specialist and parent volunteers. This event requires hundreds of volunteers to support more than twelve hundred athletes. Each family who has a student participating in the Junior Olympics is expected to volunteer at least one shift on the day of the event.
This year, Gardner Bullis is responsible for the "chin up" event and for the food booth, as well as for its own tent so there will be plenty of opportunities to pitch in! Please click on the link below to view the volunteer times and to sign up.
Each school is also required to provide 12 dozens individually wrapped baked goods that will be sold at the food stand and 4 back-up timers in case the electronic timing system fails (there will be a timers training session on 4/25). Sign-ups for those things are on the following link.

The 18th Annual Strictly Strings Concerts will be held on Tuesday, February 15th at 7 pm in the Eagle Theater at Los Altos High School. This will be a combined performance of string students in grades 6-12 from Almond, Gardner Bullis, Covington, Santa Rita, Egan and Los Altos High. Beginning players will have a chance to hear Jr. High and High School musicians and advanced players will have the opportunity to play in a large orchestra. The result will be exciting!
Boys Night Out will be a fun event of bowling and dinner, held on Friday, March 4th, from 6pm-8pm, at Palo Alto Bowl. Cost is $12/participant, which includes two hours of bowling, shoe rental, 2 slices of pizza and a drink. Look for the registration form in this week’s Thursday Folder or in the office. The Gardner Bullis Theatre Programs is proud to present the wonderful story of Mary Poppins on Wednesday, February 16th and Thursday, February 17th. Both shows will be at 7 pm in the Multi. Admission is free and there will be special front floor seating for kids. The cast of 21 students in 3rd to 6thgrades will dance and sing as Mary Poppins, Bert and Jane and Michael Banks have many magical adventures together! Directed by Scott Vanderlip, Molly Forstall and Jen Denebeim.
Want to know more about how you can keep your children safe online and how to protect your computer? NCSA has gathered a panel of security experts to talk about what you need to know and where you can turn for more information. This will be a tremendous opportunity to ask your questions to some of the top online safety and security experts in the field. This informative forum will be held at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th in the Multi-Use Room.

NCSA’s Cyber Security Awareness Volunteer Education Program (C-SAVE) was developed to encourage security professionals to put their knowledge and expertise to work in their local schools and help fill a tremendous gap in educating young people to use the Internet securely and safely. Cybersecurity professionals have the knowledge and background to young people on cybersecurity and online safety issues. By going into their local schools and classrooms they can teach children how to be safer and more secure online. In developing C-SAVE, NCSA recognized an additional opportunity to introduce young people to the possibility of cybersecurity as a profession. Volunteers are encouraged to discuss what they like about their job, the career path they have taken, and their educational background. Students in 3rd through 6th grade will have an interactive presentation about online safety and security and how it is a growing concern for schools and parents. Students lead digital lives and it’s important that they have the knowledge and skills to make good decisions that help keep them safe and secure. The National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), a national non-profit dedicated to education and awareness, is bringing its Cyber Security Awareness Volunteer Education (C-SAVE) program to our school. On Monday, February 14, volunteers from the technology industry will talk to our 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students about some of ways they can be safer online and how to make good decisions when it comes to sharing personal information, interacting with others and navigating the internet.

Witness the glamour, drama and memorable performances as the hottest stars gather together to celebrate the best in musical achievement. Come and share Music’s Biggest Night with our community and watch the GRAMMY Awards at First & Main Sports Lounge in lovely downtown Los Altos. Gardner Bullis's very own celebrity bartenders Sandy Kandel and Gus Anagnos will be stirring, shaking and pouring drinks from 4:30 pm until closing. Bring the whole family. Have dinner and drinks. Watch The GRAMMY Awards Show. Gather some ideas for your own outfit. Red Carpet or Bjork Swan Dress anyone? Digital Citizenship: Raising Kids in Our 24/7 Connected Culture
This parent education presentation provides an overview of today's digital media landscape—what's new about it and how it has influenced the way kids learn, socialize, and play—for better and for worse. The presenter discusses social networking sites, sexting, cyberbullying, and more. Additionally, expert guidance on how parents can guide kids to make responsible, respectful, and safe choices in the digital world and beyond will be provided. Presented by Rebecca Randall, Vice President of Education Programs for Common Sense Media, it will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 from 7-8:30pm at Blach Middle School Auditorium. Bruce Junek and Tass Thacker are adventurers who have traveled a significant fraction of the world on bicycle.
