Our annual Staff Appreciation Week is set for May 2 – 6th.  Let’s show our invaluable Gardner Bullis teachers and staff just how much we appreciate them by participating in this week of pampering and celebration.
Monday, May 2nd is STAFF APPRECIATION KICK OFF DAY – Teachers will gear up for a fun week with breakfast and a professional coffee cart in the staff room.
Tuesday, May 3rd is FLOWER DAY – Have your child bring a flower or two to school to be used to make a beautiful flower arrangement for the teachers and other staff.
Wednesday May 4th is FAVORITE THINGS DAY – Have your child bring in a note and/or a small treat from your teachers "favorite things" list.
Thursday, May 5th is DRESS AS YOUR TEACHER DAY – Have your child dress as their own teacher or like a teacher.  Be bold!  Be crazy!  The crazier the better!  Awards given for “best dressed!”
Friday, May 6th is ASSEMBLY AND STAFF LUNCHEON – Remind your student to cheer on their teacher and the rest of the staff when they are recognized at the morning assembly.

Beginning next week, April 26th-May 6 our students in grades two, three, four, five and six will be participating in the State of California’s STAR testing.  For STAR testing schedule, click here.  Please be sure your child is in school each and every day during the days/weeks of testing.  Please be on-time, as students will not be permitted to join their class after the tests begin.  I ask that all medical, dental and other appointments be scheduled either outside the school day during the weeks of testing or after the lunch hour.  Be sure s/he is well-rested and well-fed in order to ensure best possible focus.  I appreciate your staying involved in your child’s education…it’s truly one of the best ways to make Gardner Bullis School a very special place for children!

On Thursday, May 5th, we will have our final PTA-sponsored assembly of the year, the African Acrobats.  This acrobatic troupe comes directly from Kenya, Africa and is claimed to be the most talented and experienced African Acrobatic group in North America.  This thrilling performance will exemplify the link between athletics and the arts, as incredible acrobatics, contortions, tumbling, human pyramids, rope jumping, juggling, limbo, hoop diving, and chair balancing skills turns to dance with electrifying music.  Last year, the Asian Acrobats were a big hit - they not only showed the amazing agility of the athletes but also told a story of hard work, dedication, as well as culture of China.  We expect the African Acrobats to be every bit as good this year.  This assembly will be held during the school day and is for students only.

The 6th grade class will be hosting a very fun movie night at school on Friday, April 22nd from 6:30 – 8:30 pm in the Multi to raise money for the 6th grade gift to the school – a lamppost for the 6th grade hang out!  Drop your kids off with their sleeping bags and blankets to watch “Finding Nemo” knowing that they will be in good hands with the 6th graders and Mrs. Evanhuis, Mrs. Young and Ms. Goines in charge.  Leave them with extra money for the bake sale, snacks and face painting!  Cost is $10 per child and is open to children in Kindergarten and above.

Join us on Wednesday, April 20th at 8:20 am in the library for the PTA General meeting.  We will be voting on the new PTA board for next year.  Also, 5thgrade teacher, Ms. Sarah Koh, will be discussing 1) intrinsic learning, 2) 21st Century skills and Bloom's Taxonomy (levels of thinking), 3) what Ms. Koh does to motivate and  inspire her students and 4) what parents can do to prepare their child for the upper grades.  Erin Aitken’s 3rd grade class will present the money they earned through a bake sale to the PTA.  Find out about the Committee Chair positions which are open for next year and get involved!  Coffee and treats will be provided.  There is a lot going on!  Don’t miss out!

Join us for a special Earth Week Flag Salute on Monday, April 18th.  Hear about the activities we have planned to celebrate Earth Day, including bike assembly and tune-ups by Chain Reaction on Tuesday, April 19th, pathway clean-ups, waste-free Wednesday at lunch and much more!
