Walkathon
Registration is now open for the Walkathon and you don’t want bail early and miss it! This year we will Hang 10 with a totally awesome surf theme and it’s gonna be epic. So get your surf moves ready and head over to the registration page to make sure you join in the fun. Pre-registration closes on September 28th, so don’t wait.
The Walkathon fundraiser is the largest school community event of the year and the fundraising is powered by students! The money raised supports critical PTA programs like technology, music, art, and library, plus it’s a ton of fun for our staff and school families. The goal is for kids to walk as many laps as they can, winning prizes on site for laps walked. They can gather pledges from grandparents, neighbors, etc., by setting up a pledge page on Pledgestar or we can also accept flat fee sponsorships, should you wish to donate money in support of a walker. Click here for additional information.

Gardner Wear will be available for purchase this Friday before morning assembly. Moving forward, it will be available on the last Friday of the month before morning assembly, for Spirit Day. You can also order new swag from our web store.
LASD WANTS YOU!
Have you thought about being a Substitute teacher?
Substitute Teacher Training
September 27th
9am-12:00pm
$$ No Cost $$
The Silicon Valley economy is doing well and unemployment is quite low. For LASD, this means fewer people interested in substitute teaching. We are looking for parents who would be interested in helping our schools by becoming a substitute teacher. We realize this may initially sound a bit unnerving, but it is actually a wonderful way to learn more about the learning of our students. You can choose your schedule, working as often or as little as you would like as well as at the schools of your choosing. We conducted this training in 2017 and had terrific feedback and results with our new substitutes. We could really use your help, so please consider the opportunity.
If you would consider joining our substitute teaching pool, we are offering a free mini-training hosted by our Human Resource & Curriculum Departments. Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 27th from 9am-12:00pm. For more information click the link here and/ or contact Erin Green, Director of Student and Staff Services egreen@lasdschools.

Students will advance through and earn achievement pins signifying their proficiency in golf skills, etiquette, and basic golf knowledge. Screenagers Documentary
Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston is scheduled to screen her documentary, “Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age,” and participate in a question-and-answer session 5:30-7:15 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Episcopal Church and Ventana School, 1040 Border Road, Los Altos.
“Screenagers” is the first feature documentary to explore the impact of screen technology on children, who spend on average 6.5 hours per day in front of screens, and to offer practical solutions.
The film’s subject has particular resonance in Silicon Valley, and for Ruston, the connection is also personal.
Ruston decided to make “Screenagers” when she found herself constantly struggling with her two children about screen time. Hearing how other parents were equally overwhelmed, she began to research what she came to see as one of the biggest, unexplored parenting issues of the time.
She turned the camera on her own family and others to probe struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Ruston’s aim was not only to expose the risks of screen time, but also to spark conversations between adults and teens and offer ways for kids to achieve a healthy balance.
Ruston is also known for the award-winning films “Unlisted: A Story of Schizophrenia” and “Hidden Pictures: A Personal Journey into Global Mental Health,” both of which aired on PBS and were the focus of national campaigns.
The organizers of the screening, the Ventana School Education Connection, encourage parents to bring their children. Child care and a pizza dinner will be available for children ages 2 and up, with advance tickets required. Teens are urged to attend and take part in the conversations. Tickets for ages 12 and up are $20, and child care tickets are $10.
For tickets and more information, call the Ventana School office at 948-2121 or visit tinyurl.com/screenagersfilm.
Hot Lunch Volunteers Needed
In order to provide the students with lunch in a timely manner, we need two volunteers per day. There are some days that we don’t have anyone at all! Volunteering twice a month is enough to help us. Send Camilla an email at hlvolunteers@google.com so she can schedule your help. Besides seeing the kids, you’ll get lunch credit on your choicelunch account!
Religious Excused Absence
Observed religious holidays are considered excused absences as long as the absence has been requested in advance in writing by the parent or guardian and approved by the principal or designee (E.C. 48205, B.P. 5113).
