LASD WANTS YOU!
Have you thought about being a Substitute teacher? Substitute Teacher Training
September 27th
9am-12:00pm
$$ No Cost $$
The Silicon Valley economy is doing well and unemployment is quite low. For LASD, this means fewer people interested in substitute teaching. We are looking for parents who would be interested in helping our schools by becoming a substitute teacher. We realize this may initially sound a bit unnerving, but it is actually a wonderful way to learn more about the learning of our students. You can choose your schedule, working as often or as little as you would like as well as at the schools of your choosing. We conducted this training in 2017 and had terrific feedback and results with our new substitutes. We could really use your help, so please consider the opportunity.
If you would consider joining our substitute teaching pool, we are offering a free mini-training hosted by our Human Resource & Curriculum Departments. Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 27th from 9am-12:00pm. For more information click the link here and/ or contact Erin Green, Director of Student and Staff Services egreen@lasdschools.
Substitute Boot Camp 2018!
We’ve raised $500,000!
Thanks to the generous LASD families who have contributed to LAEF this school year and helped us reach this important milestone. We’re off to a great start!
Our goal is to raise $3.5 Million to support STEM, Wellness, Literacy, and Arts this school year.
For each elementary school, LAEF funds teachers and staff for art, music, library, computer science, STEM, PE, and literacy aides for grades 1 & 2.
For each junior high school, LAEF funds teachers and staff for a wide variety of electives such as band, photography, robotics and world languages, along with librarians, mental health counselors, a math instructional support teacher, and a CSTEM program manager.
LAEF also co-sponsors the MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series, which had over 1,100 LASD attendees in the past school year.
Every student at your school benefits from donations to LAEF, and that’s why we strive for 100% parent participation. Visit LAEFonline.org and Donate or Pledge Today!

After School Program by DesignX
Calling all budding Makers and Tinkerers!
DesignX is excited to return to Gardner Bullis this Fall with their popular one-of-a-kind after school program in PRODUCT DESIGN.
The proprietary methodologies, used in all our programs, helps students as young as 7y to explore and build on their creative confidence, empowering them to make their ideas a reality. We believe that each child is unique and so are their designs.
In this session students will learn to conceptualize their idea for a product that they are most familiar with …. a wood desk organizer. They will explore the product's form and function and its connection to themselves. They will learn to sketch their concepts in 2D and 3D, have fun sanding, painting, nailing and hammering as they bring their idea to fruition. A great accessory to keep those desk essentials organized - but most importantly they will bring home the priceless feeling of empowerment that they can make THEIR ideas happen! Returning students are encouraged and challenged to build on their design and making skills - designing the same product that is more complex or a completely different product using the same materials.
Dates: Wednesdays Sept 5th – Nov 14th; 3:00pm - 4:30pm (free supervision 2:45-3:00pm) Grades 2nd – 6th

Join the PTA
Joining the PTA benefits our students! More than 30 years of PTA research has proven that children perform better when their parents are involved both at home and at school.
A PTA membership can also be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at your child’s school. Only members can vote on where PTA funds are spent, what programs should be implemented, and overall PTA goals.
Further, there is power in numbers. Every member of our Gardner Bullis PTA gets counted as the total number of PTA members in the state, thus allowing the California PTA to use those numbers when lobbying for legislation that is beneficial to our children at the local level.
Finally, the PTA helps you stay connected. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind. There's no better way to know what's happening in your school. JOIN NOW
