What’s an IST? Meet LASD’s new Instructional Support Teacher for Math

Ms. Noirin Foy is the district’s first IST, supporting 6-8th grade math by providing our 27 math teachers with professional learning, coaching, and modeling. Teaching math in LASD since 2011, she is also strengthening LASD’s collaboration with the math ISTs from Mountain View and Los Altos High Schools. Save the Elephants!

In town for Thanksgiving?  On Wednesday, 11/23, from about 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, 5th graders will be raising money for Tusk, a nonprofit that works to save African wildlife. Come by Main Street in front of the former Miyo store for a free cookie and to learn more about Tusk and its efforts to save the endangered elephants!
 

Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade

Since 1977, the Festival of Lights Parade has lit up downtown Los Altos to kick off the holiday season. With a theme of “A Child’s Holiday Fantasy,” the parade features approximately twenty-five illuminated floats, twinkling walking storybook characters, the mayors of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, and local high school marching bands.

Make this holiday season memorable and bring the whole family for a day in the Hills that they will not forget!

Girls on the Run

WHAT IS GIRLS ON THE RUN? Girls on the Run is a life-changing, after-school program for girls in 4th-6th grades. Girls learn life skills such as healthy decision-making, teamwork and confidence while training to complete a 5K!

WHEN IS GIRLS ON THE RUN? The season starts the week of March 6and culminates in the end-of-season Girls on the Run 5K on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Vasona Park in Los Gatos. Our team will meet on Tuesdays/Thursdays Room 15 from 2:45-4:15 (lessons take place on campus).

WHAT DOES IT COST? The cost of the program is $210, which includes 20 lessons led by trained coaches, an official program T-shirt and water bottle, all lesson materials, a healthy snack at each lesson, and registration into the Girls on the Run 5K (including a 5K T-shirt and customized race bib).

HOW DO I REGISTER MY DAUGHTER? Registration is by lottery and online only at www.gotrsv.org.

  • Lottery Registration Period: Saturday, December 3-Monday, December 5, at 11:59 pm.
  • The computer-generated lottery will be run on Tuesday, December 6. (Registration is closed on this day.) Those selected will be notified by email, and their credit cards will be charged. Those NOT selected will be notified by email, and their cards will NOT be charged.
  • Registration will reopen at 9:00 am on Wednesday, December 7, on a first-come, first-served basis at sites with spots available and for the waiting list at sites that filled.

ARE NEED-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE Yes! Scholarships MUST be applied for and approved BEFORE registering your daughter for the program. Online applications are available beginning November 1.

  • Scholarship applications will be reviewed and approved in an ongoing manner, however, you MUST apply by Monday, November 28 , in order to receive a scholarship code in time to use and register during the lottery registration period.
  • The scholarship application and instructions are available at www.gotrsv.org/scholarships.

Keeping Kids Safe Online

Presented by Loyola's Project Cornerstone Digital Citizenship Program

An evening of parent education with Police Agent Ryan Langone of the Los Altos Police Department.
