The MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series presents: Getting College Ready: Seven Essentials for Raising Children Who Succeed Laura Kastner, Ph.D. Tuesday April 24, 2018 at 7pm, Mountain View High School Spartan Theater Are you concerned about "designing" the perfect college résumé for your children? According to Dr. Laura Kastner, doing so risks limiting our parenting focus to an over-emphasis on academic achievement, resulting in more stress and less sensitivity to other developmental issues which, in turn, can lead to our children's underachievement and burnout. Dr. Kastner is a clinical psychologist and clinical professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Washington. Specializing in adolescent development and health, Dr. Kastner's academic articles include adolescent sexuality, behavioral medicine, teen suicide, eating disorders, and the teaching of interviewing skills in primary care. She has co-authored five books on parenting including Getting to Calm, The Early Years: Cool-headed Strategies for Raising Caring, Happy, and Independent 3-7 Year Olds; Getting to Calm: Cool-Headed Strategies for Parenting Tweens & Teens; Wise Minded Parenting: 7 Essentials for Raising Successful Tweens & Teens; and The Launching Years: Strategies for Parenting from Senior Year to College Life. To register for this free event, go to https://mvla2017-2018- For more information go to http://mvlaspeakerseries.org/ MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series events are sponsored by the Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF), MVLA High School Foundation, Mountain View Educational Foundation (MVEF), and Los Altos-Mountain View PTA Council. |
